Applying to health professional programs requires advanced planning. You should prepare to apply to your programs of choice at least one year in advance! 

Most health professional programs conduct holistic applicant reviews to determine your readiness for healthcare. Holistic review includes, but is not limited to: 

  • core competencies for health professions
  • academic preparation
  • experiences outside of the classroom
  • letters of recommendation
  • demonstrated interest in healthcare
Pre-Health Advising

Applications for health professions programs open at different times of the year. You will typically submit your application about 1 – 1.5 years before you plan to start your professional program. If you intend to begin medical school in Fall 2027, you’d submit your application in May/June 2026. If a school uses rolling admissions, you should submit as early as possible. 

Centralized Application Services

Most health professions programs use a centralized application service. This allows you to apply to multiple programs through one application. 

The centralized application typically collects information such as: 

  • Biographical information
  • College transcripts from every institution attended 
  • Professional Exam Score (DAT, GRE, MCAT, OAT)
  • Experiences, Achievements, Licenses, and Certifications
  • Essays
  • Letters of Recommendation
