Plans to Graduation
Need help planning out what your time at UNI looks like? Don’t worry, the Office of Academic Advising has you covered!
This webpage is a jump-start on creating a personalized plan to graduation (also called a plan of study). Plans of study are an outline of classes and requirements you will tentatively follow while being at UNI. They can look different for every student, depending on their goals, expected time at UNI, and their major/s.
A plan of study can be confusing for students who have never worked with one before. We hope this website will help alleviate some of this confusion. However, if it doesn’t, that’s okay!
Plans of study are tentative and based on course offerings and other factors; they should be updated accordingly.

Majors, Minors, & Certificates
Knowing you need a minimum of 120 credit hours to graduate, it is common for students to pick up a minor, certificate, or even a double major.
If you have extra room in your schedule, you can review your options here for majors, minors, and certificates.
Prerequisites
Check for prerequisites for future classes you plan to take. These can be found in the course descriptions.
An example of a prerequisite might include junior standing. Junior standing is achieved by completing 60+ credit hours.
Scheduling
Try to avoid scheduling several difficult courses in one semester. Spread them out to make your time at UNI more enjoyable!
Also, keep in mind your academic load for each semester. A student is considered full-time when taking 12+ credit hours in a semester. Be mindful of other priorities or obligations you may have.
How to Get Started
- Open all the useful resources (template plan of study, advisement report, course catalog, etc.)
- Fill in past semesters or college courses taken on your chosen plan of study.

- Under each requirement, it will either say 'Satisfied' or 'Not Satisfied'. Courses with the 'Not Satisfied' will need to be tentatively scheduled in your plan of study.
- Some categories provide multiple courses to satisfy the requirement.
- If viewing the web version, click “View All” in the top right corner of the course box to see all courses that can be used to meet this requirement.
- All courses provide a semester in which they are offered, next to the credit hour column.
- Schedule these courses according to the offered semester.
- Courses that say "variable" are not offered in a specific semester and can be tentatively added to the plan of study.
- Prior to registration, please review the schedule of classes when it is released to confirm the course is being offered.
- Continue filling out your plan of study while making sure to complete all your degree requirements.
